Who should buy, and who should wait?
If you already own a healthy RTX 4070, buying an RTX 5070 usually does not deliver enough extra native raster speed to justify a major outlay, especially at elevated 2026 street prices.
12GB to 12GB is not a memory upgrade
Both cards have 12GB VRAM, so an RTX 4070 owner is not solving a capacity problem with an RTX 5070. The newer architecture and memory subsystem matter for performance, and there are software enhancements, but those should be judged on the games you play rather than the spec-sheet year.
The compelling reason is often a specific Nvidia feature
If your favorite games support a feature available or improved on the newer generation and you value its tradeoffs, an RTX 5070 may make sense. For competitive players, consider that frame-generation output and native input responsiveness are not the same metric.
A better upgrade target
If you truly need much more headroom at 1440p, compare a higher performance tier instead of spending to move one generation at a similar tier. An RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT offers a clearer jump, subject to price, VRAM needs, PSU, and the programs you use.

No. Different games weight shader performance, VRAM, ray tracing and upscaling very differently. These figures use the same June 2026 raster benchmark suite at Ultra settings. Look up your most-played games separately.
Can I install either card in my existing computer?

Should I wait for prices to fall?
Waiting is a rational option when your current GPU handles your games and contemporary store prices are high. Set a personal price ceiling based on how much performance improvement you actually need.
